An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Ariz. only)
Arizona must aggressively protect the water that citizens rely on

I attended the recent meeting in Sunsites with Attorney General Kris Mayes.
There were over 100 people at this meeting. Everybody in the valley is worried about water. Everybody is vocal about it. Our worries have long been neglected by the county and the state.
I was so happy that somebody in the state government is taking our water problems seriously.
At the meeting I noticed that our Representative, Gail Griffin, sat in the back smiling like it didn't mean anything to her at all. She did not rise to address our concerns. Instead she smiled like an alligator that's already eaten the chicken.
Gail Griffin refuses to represent the citizens of Cochise that are running out of water. I know her. I've talked to her. She is unmovable when it comes to listening to the concerns of Cochise county residents. She is wholly owned by corporate interests.
Cochise county has ignored this responsibility for decades. The state legislature has utterly failed to protect Cochise county water from overdevelopment.
I am in danger of losing the water supply to my home because of recent accelerating use of water by corporations and tree farms.
When my well goes dry suddenly my house will be worth less then what I have invested in it. I will not be able to sell it at a price that covers the mortgage. I will lose everything. I would not be able to move when I am no longer capable of living alone.
Water is what keeps people in Arizona! Arizona could not exist without water. Arizona would become a true desert incapable of sustaining life when we run out of water.
But the State government is throwing it away like it's unlimited. You are burning up our water to appease the army of lobbyists that own your attention while you fail residents.
