An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Reject inhumane immigrant detention at Guantanamo Bay

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Establishing what would amount to an immigrant concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay raises serious human rights concerns and would be an unethical and likely unconstitutional overreach of executive power. Using Guantanamo Bay for terrorist detention has turned into a decades-long headache for successive administrations, and this would be kicking the can down the road again in a very inhumane way. Guantanamo was intended as a detention facility for suspected terrorists and enemy combatants during wartime, not as a mass incarceration site for civil immigration violations. Repurposing it to indefinitely detain tens of thousands of migrants, including many who have not been convicted of any crime, disregards due process and erodes civil liberties.
