I hereby request that you resign your position as a senator representing the Commonwealth of Virginia. Your decision to vote for the Republican plan to reopen the government, especially after your astute observation that the very deal you agreed to is an empty one, is baffling. It appears to be due to naivete, political selfishness, or outright foolishness. In any sense, it is completely out of step with what Virginians, and Americans overall, want.
Resignation is preferable to the indignity of losing your next primary election. Virginians will remember the capitulation of your vote to surrender the only leverage the party has; you have allowed our country to step closer into authoritarianism. We will do everything we can to ensure you are remembered as one of the "old guard" to be replaced with those who will fight for democracy. Or, you can save yourself the shame of being primaried and resign. Resign and let someone with the character and gumption that Virginians deserve take the reins.
