Hello,
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen who cares deeply about the plight of the Palestinian people in Gaza. I urge you to support the U.S. efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza through airdrops and to call for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
As you may know, Gaza has been under a brutal siege by Israel for more than a decade, which has deprived its population of basic necessities such as food, water, electricity, and medicine. The situation has worsened since October 7, 2024, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking more than 240 hostages. Israel responded with a massive military operation that has killed thousands of Palestinians, mostly civilians, and destroyed much of Gaza's infrastructure.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is dire and urgent. According to the United Nations, more than 2 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, and more than half of them are children. The risk of famine, disease, and death is high, especially as winter approaches. The people of Gaza are desperate for help, as evidenced by the tragic incident on March 4, when at least 115 Palestinians were killed and hundreds more wounded as they rushed to receive aid from a convoy of trucks that was attacked by Israeli forces.
The U.S. has been the largest provider of aid to Gaza and the West Bank since the onset of the conflict, with $180 million dollars of assistance. However, the delivery of aid by trucks has proven to be dangerous and insufficient, as the Israeli blockade and the criminal gangs in Gaza hamper the distribution of the goods. That is why the U.S. has initiated a new strategy of airdropping food and supplies into Gaza, in coordination with Jordan, to reach the people in need more quickly and safely. On March 2 and 5, the U.S. military dropped more than 74,800 meals into Gaza, and plans to continue this operation until the situation improves.
The airdrops are a vital lifeline for the people of Gaza, but they are not enough. The only way to end the suffering and the violence is to achieve a lasting peace between Israel and Hamas. The U.S. is working hard to broker a deal that would trigger a six-week ceasefire, which would allow a surge in the flow of aid, the release of hostages, and a reduction in violence. The deal is on the table, and Hamas should accept it immediately.
As an elected official, you have the power and the responsibility to influence this outcome. I urge you to use your voice and your vote to support the U.S. efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza through airdrops and to call for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The lives of millions of innocent people depend on it.
Thank you for your attention and your action in this matter!
