An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Explain - Why are American soldiers in harm’s way while Trump plays golf?

I am writing to demand immediate answers and accountability regarding the reckless and deeply troubling decision by the President of the United States to launch a military offensive against Iran without clear authorization from Congress. Under Article I of the Constitution, the authority to declare war rests with Congress — not the President. Yet credible reporting indicates that the administration initiated hostilities against a sovereign nation without that authorization. At the same time, reports indicate that U.S. service members have already been killed and others seriously wounded as a result of this action. During a Pentagon briefing, officials reportedly acknowledged that there was no concrete intelligence indicating that Iran was preparing an imminent attack on U.S. forces prior to these strikes. If this is accurate, then the United States has been placed on a path toward a wider war without justification and without the constitutional approval required by law. Equally disturbing is the fact that while American troops are being placed in harm’s way, the President has been attending high-dollar fundraising events at his private club — socializing with wealthy donors while U.S. service members face the deadly consequences of his decisions. The contrast is indefensible. American soldiers are risking their lives, while the Commander in Chief appears more focused on golf and political fundraising than on the gravity of the conflict he has initiated. Congress cannot remain silent while the constitutional balance of power over war is ignored and American lives are put at risk. I therefore demand clear answers to the following: 1. Has Congress formally authorized the current military campaign against Iran? 2. If not, what specific steps are you taking to enforce Congress’s constitutional authority under Article I and the War Powers Resolution? 3. What is the current status of U.S. military personnel deployed in the region, and what measures are in place to protect them and prevent further escalation into a broader war? 4. What oversight actions will Congress undertake to investigate the circumstances under which this military action was initiated? The American people deserve transparency, honesty, and constitutional leadership when it comes to matters of war and peace. Our service members deserve leadership that treats their lives with the seriousness and respect they demand — not indifference while the Commander in Chief attends fundraisers and plays golf. I expect a prompt and substantive response explaining what Congress will do to uphold its constitutional duty and protect the lives of American troops.
