Oppose Springfield Deportations and Extend Temporary Protected Status for Haitians

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to protect Springfield, Ohio's Haitian community from the planned mass deportations that threaten to tear apart families and reverse the city's economic recovery.
Springfield's Haitian residents arrived legally through federal programs and have been instrumental in revitalizing the city. They have opened businesses, filled difficult jobs that local employers struggled to fill, and stabilized declining neighborhoods. Historian Timothy Snyder has documented the significant positive impact this community has had on Springfield's economy and social fabric.
The current push to strip Temporary Protected Status and deport these residents is built on manufactured moral panic and demonstrably false narratives. JD Vance fabricated stories about Haitians eating pets and wildlife. Claims about overwhelmed schools and allegations of savagery have been thoroughly debunked by local officials and journalists. Yet these lies have triggered bomb threats against Springfield, Nazi marches through the streets, and widespread fear among Haitian families who came here legally and contributed to their community.
This is not immigration enforcement. This is ethnic cleansing disguised as policy, and it represents a fundamental test of whether racist disinformation will dictate who counts as American.
I am asking you to take four specific actions. First, publicly denounce the targeting of Springfield's Haitians as discriminatory and illegitimate. Second, support immediate extension and expansion of Temporary Protected Status and other lawful pathways for Haitian residents. Third, back federal, state, and local protections that limit ICE's ability to carry out mass raids based on racist disinformation. Fourth, use your platform to correct the record about Springfield and stand with local leaders, civil rights groups, and Haitian community members who are defending their neighbors.
I vote in every election and will be watching your response to this crisis closely. Springfield is a test case for our democracy. I need to know that you will stand against fascist fantasies and defend the legal residents who have strengthened our communities.
