Oppose HB 2468 — Keep Public Dollars in Public Schools

I am a constituent from Neodesha, and I am writing to strongly oppose HB 2468 and any expansion of school voucher programs in Kansas. School vouchers take critical resources away from public schools — the very schools that serve nearly 90% of Kansas children. Public schools are the backbone of our communities. They educate the vast majority of our students, provide essential services like special education and free or reduced-price meals, and are often the largest employers in rural and small-town Kansas. Diverting public funds to private schools undermines these institutions and puts our kids’ futures at risk. HB 2468 does not improve educational outcomes for most Kansas families. Instead, it shifts taxpayer dollars to private institutions that are not held to the same transparency, accountability, or nondiscrimination standards as public schools. Many private schools can still deny admission based on disability, religion, gender identity, or academic performance — meaning public money would be funding schools that can legally exclude students. If lawmakers truly want to strengthen education in Kansas, the solution is not to siphon funds away from public classrooms. We should be investing in: Smaller class sizes Competitive teacher pay Mental health supports Special education services Safe, well-resourced school buildings Kansas Republicans are putting our kids’ futures at risk by prioritizing voucher schemes over the real needs of our public schools. I want my tax dollars to stay in the public education system — where they benefit all students, not just a select few. Please vote NO on HB 2468 and stand up for Kansas children, families, and public schools.
