DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Tomorrow as we observe Presidents’ Day, I give you recent words of our current president… "He who saves his country does not violate any law," Trump said on Truth Social. That’s certainly the view of the GOP Congress. I have questions of my elected officials. Why is the current administration being allowed to subvert, dodge, manipulate, and ignore every guardrail put in place to help the country run smoothly? And competently? Why did y’all approve some of the most disruptive, inexperienced, and perhaps even incompetent cabinet nominees in our country’s history? And then turn around and start voicing some late concerns about their actions so far? Why do you not voice concern about actions gutting the federal workforce, decimating families, creating chaos across the world threatening our national security as Elon Musk is given unchecked power to dissolve agencies and jobs and lives that he deems ‘corrupt’ or ‘wasteful’ or just plain ‘evil’ with a keystroke? Where is the concern for Americans who wanted to live lives of civil service and are being treated as expendable, as deemed by a non-elected billionaire’s assessment? Why have you rolled over as our First Amendment rights are trampled on in a totalitarian version of ‘woke’? Trump’s administration is banning specific words from government websites, aggressively trying to erase transgender people from history and blocking AP reporters from the Oval Office. They’ve banned an array of words at the NSA including: racism, anti-racism, bias, diversity, diverse, gender, inclusion, prejudice, pronouns and equality. Isn’t this the same kind of censorship your party has always decried? What happened to your loyalty to free speech? Or has it always been ‘Free speech for me. Not for thee’? And lastly, why have you ceded Congress’s power, the only power that might actually curb the presidential excesses we’re seeing, to Elon Musk’s X account? He can move markets. He can point his followers against anyone and anything. He can, does and will spread conspiracy theories, mis-and dis-information, lies and anything else he wants. And when he speaks, you oblige. America needs you to do what we elected you to do…protect your constituents. And country.
