Given her prior role as a personal attorney to former President Trump, the appearance that the Civil Rights Division may be protecting political interests rather than enforcing the law impartially is deeply concerning. No one is above the law. When civil rights enforcement is selectively applied or ignored, it erodes confidence in the justice system and signals that constitutional protections depend on politics rather than facts.
