I’m writing as a constituent who still believes in democracy but also sees how fragile it’s become.
Every year, it gets harder for people to vote. Districts are drawn to silence voices. Basic rights we grew up believing were guaranteed are now “up for debate.” And across the country, especially in places like Texas, entire communities are being carved out of representation.
This isn’t how it’s supposed to work.
That’s why I’m urging you to support the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, two bills that would help restore fairness, protect access to the ballot, and stop extreme gerrymandering before it’s too late.
These aren’t radical ideas. They’re the bare minimum for a healthy democracy: Let people vote. Count every vote. Make every vote matter.
If Congress fails to act, we risk locking in a generation of anti-democratic rule, one where voters don’t choose their leaders, leaders choose their voters.
And once that’s set, it’s hard to undo.
But it doesn’t have to go that way. We still have a window, and your leadership could be part of a turning point.
