<p1> Glendale has terminated its contract with ICE to house immigration detainees due to growing community concerns that the arrangement undermined trust in local law enforcement and eroded Glendale's identity as a welcoming community. As a Harris County resident, I urge our county to re-evaluate any existing cooperation with ICE for similar reasons. </p1> <p2> Involving local police in federal immigration enforcement efforts fosters an adversarial relationship with immigrant communities, making them reluctant to report crimes or cooperate with authorities. To preserve community trust and local sovereignty, Harris County should terminate any contracts providing detention space or logistical support to ICE. </p2> <p3> Our local law enforcement resources should focus solely on maintaining public safety for all residents, regardless of immigration status. Taking this principled stance prioritizes the wellbeing of Harris County's entire community over politically-charged federal policies. I respectfully request county leadership to review any ICE cooperation and make the ethical choice to disentangle local policing from civil immigration enforcement. </p3>
