Close Schools on 1/23

I am writing to implore you to close schools on Friday January 23rd. As you are aware, 1/23 is a statewide day of action in protest of ICEs presence in our state, their anti-American and illegal tactics, and the abhorrent waste of taxpayer funds to going to fund their terroristic acts. Nearly 80 local unions and counting are committed to participate, including SPFE and MFE-- two of the biggest educators locals in our state. As a former educator yourself, I don't need to convince you that educator voices in this moment are imperative. History has shown that when unions engage to resist fascism, they are twice as successful (80% of the time). Our educators are on the front line of this moment. They should not have to choose between the safety of their students in school on 1/23, and the safety of their students in their communities in perpetuity. Thank you.
