Demand Action: Restore Kamala Harris’ Secret Service Protection Immediately

I am writing to demand immediate congressional action regarding President Trump's unconscionable decision to revoke former Vice President Kamala Harris's Secret Service protection, effective September 1. This strips protection from a former Vice President who served our nation with distinction and faces ongoing security threats as the first woman and first Black woman to hold the office. Former Vice Presidents typically receive six months of protection, but President Biden had extended Harris's detail for an additional year due to heightened security concerns. There is no modern precedent for an American president weaponizing security details as a political tool. This decision comes at a particularly charged time, with Trump having faced two assassination attempts himself, yet he strips protection from his political opponent. The timing is especially egregious - Harris begins a nationwide book tour next month, putting her in high-profile public settings without federal protection. She will lose physical security and constant threat intelligence analysis, communication monitoring, and safety for her Los Angeles home. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called this "political retaliation," and California Governor Gavin Newsom was briefed on the security concerns. Our former Vice Presidents deserve protection regardless of party politics. I urge you to introduce immediate legislation to restore Harris’s Secret Service protection. I would also like to ask you to publicly condemn this vindictive action and call on President Trump to stop the rhetoric and politically motivated actions that undermine our democracy.
