Weaponization of Justice Department

I write to express grave concern and strong condemnation regarding President Donald Trump’s recent directive ordering the Justice Department to investigate ActBlue, the primary fundraising platform for the Democratic Party. This action represents a clear abuse of executive power and a dangerous escalation in the use of governmental authority to target political rivals.   The President’s memorandum, instructing Attorney General Pam Bondi to probe ActBlue based on unsubstantiated allegations of illegal contributions, is widely recognized as an attempt to undermine the opposition and erode the traditional separation between the White House and the Justice Department. ActBlue and numerous Democratic leaders have rightly denounced this move as unlawful and a blatant assault on American democracy.   Such conduct is consistent with a broader pattern of authoritarian behavior, including the administration’s repeated disregard for judicial orders and efforts to weaponize federal agencies against perceived enemies. These actions threaten the rule of law, the independence of our institutions, and the foundational checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution.   I urge Congress to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into this abuse of power. Congress must act to defend our democratic norms, ensure accountability, and reaffirm that no president is above the law. The integrity of our democracy depends on your swift and decisive response.
