Demand for Congressional Oversight and Accountability

I am writing to remind you of your fundamental responsibility to uphold the Constitution and act as a check on executive power. As elected officials, you swore an oath to defend this nation’s founding principles, and it is your duty to ensure that all actions taken by government are transparent, accountable, and constitutional. To that end, I demand the following: 1. Quorum Calls on All Actions – Every piece of legislation, cabinet appointment, and executive action must be met with a quorum call. Ensuring full attendance and deliberation is essential for transparency, accountability, and the proper functioning of our democracy. This is critical to avoid rushed, undisclosed decisions that evade proper scrutiny. 2. Blanket Opposition to Unchecked Power – Until proper oversight is restored, Congress must refuse to advance any measures that lack transparency and due process. There should be no cooperation unless full transparency and accountability are guaranteed. Congress must not allow actions that undermine the constitutional balance of power, and should always demand full deliberation on matters that affect the American people. 3. Reinstate and Strengthen Inspectors General – Independent oversight is essential to improve the odds of preventing corruption, abuse of power, and the erosion of democratic norms. Congress must restore and protect Inspectors General, including those overseeing the FBI agents who monitor the White House and investigate executive branch conduct. These offices must be fully reinstated and insulated from political interference, as they are critical in helping ensure the integrity and accountability of the executive branch. This is not a matter of partisanship; it is a matter of fulfilling your oath of office and defending our democratic principles. I expect you to act decisively and without delay to ensure that the government operates with transparency, accountability, and respect for the Constitution.
