Block Aggressive, Inhumane Policies Toward Cuba

85 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

I am a voting constituent writing to express my strong opposition to the current U.S. administration’s "maximum pressure" campaign against Cuba, which has recently culminated in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. As reported by several reputable news sources on March 16, 2026, Cuba’s national power grid has suffered a total collapse, plunging over 10 million people into darkness and leaving the island on the brink of a systemic breakdown. The evidence suggests that this collapse is not merely a technical failure but the direct result of deliberate U.S. policies. The current oil blockade—including the interception of shipments and the threat of secondary sanctions on third-party nations—has effectively severed Cuba’s energy lifeline. This is not a targeted political measure; it is a form of collective punishment that impacts the most vulnerable. Without power, hospitals cannot sustain life-saving equipment, food supplies are rotting, and families are being forced to cook with firewood in the streets of Havana. Furthermore, I am deeply disturbed by the aggressive and militaristic rhetoric emerging from the White House. Statements suggesting a "friendly takeover" or "liberation" of a sovereign nation, combined with the declaration of a "national emergency" regarding Cuba, set a dangerous precedent for unilateral military intervention. History has shown that such aggressive posturing in Latin America rarely leads to stability or democracy; instead, it fuels migration crises, regional instability, and immense human suffering. The United Nations and various human rights organizations have warned that these actions are triggering a humanitarian "collapse." Using the deprivation of basic necessities—fuel, food, and medicine—as a tool of foreign policy is inhumane and violates the spirit of international law. As my representative, I urge you to: Publicly oppose any military action or "takeover" plans directed at Cuba. Call for an immediate humanitarian waiver on fuel and medicine to prevent further loss of life during this grid failure. Advocate for a return to diplomatic engagement, starting with the removal of Cuba from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list and the lifting of the blockade. We must choose a path of peace and regional cooperation rather than one of aggression and suffering. The Cuban people deserve the right to dignity and basic survival, free from the shadow of foreign military threats and economic strangulation.
