I was only following orders is not a legitimate legal defense.

I am writing as a concerned citizen regarding the actions of the Trump administration, particularly its handling of personal data and government secrets. Given recent revelations, I have serious questions about accountability and legal consequences.
The defense of “I was only following orders” was famously rejected during the Nuremberg trials, yet we see officials using similar justifications today. If members of the administration violate the Constitution, are they immune from prosecution? Who holds them accountable?
Furthermore, who is pays for their legal defense. The American taxpayer will not be footing the bill for those accused of mishandling government secrets or abusing personal data. Are you prepared to protect these individuals by funding their legal representation, and if so, how do you plan to protect taxpayers from this additional abuse of funds?
Congress must ensure that those in power are not above the law. I urge you and your staff to demand transparency, uphold the Constitution, and protect taxpayers and government information.
