Request for Immediate Action: Suncor's PFAS Discharge and Remediation

The recent surge in PFAS discharge from Suncor Energy's refinery in Commerce City, Colorado, is alarming. In June, PFAS levels in the discharge water into Sand Creek were over 10,000 times the EPA health advisory level. This contamination can adversely affect downstream communities and inflate treatment costs for municipal water agencies. Despite installing a treatment technology, the cause of the high PFAS levels remains unknown. Suncor has yet to comment on these incidents. Earthjustice disputes Suncor's claim that its PFAS contributions do not impact the South Platte River. It is crucial to enforce stricter PFAS and benzene-control agreements with Suncor to protect communities from pollution. Therefore, it is requested that immediate action be taken to revise the permit draft for Suncor and order the remediation of contaminated sites.
