I understand this was for a Fox News hit, but, can Senator Moody stop using language like, “this is not retribution. This is fumigation. You have had radicals roaming in these institutions like termites destabilizing them, weakening them…”
Using metaphors like “termites” reduces people to pests. This often precedes or justifies purges, censorship, or violence — either political or literal. This language also deepens division—it implies that those with opposing views are not just wrong but threats that must be eradicated. Similar rhetoric has appeared in totalitarian regimes to justify repression.
Some Floridians will cheer for this kind of speech, but most of us do not appreciate a Senator, who’s supposed to serve everyone’s interest, moving the civic discourse from debate to extermination-style framing.
