American taxpayers deserve answers—not excuses.
Vice President JD Vance reportedly acknowledged that the United States “underestimated” Iran while Americans are footing the bill for a costly war. Underestimated? Congress must demand to know how this happened, who made these decisions, and why American families are paying the price.
The $30 billion figure is already outdated. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that military operations against Iran cost approximately $38 billion through August 1, 2026. Eighteen American service members had been killed and 824 wounded as of September 15. The Pentagon’s own inspector general also warned that spending on munitions had created strategic inventory shortfalls.
I demand that YOU take these specific actions:
1. Hold public hearings requiring Vice President Vance, the Secretary of Defense, and senior military officials to explain the administration’s intelligence assessments, war objectives, and cost projections.
2. Subpoena records and testimony necessary to establish the full cost of the war, including weapons, equipment losses, damaged bases, future obligations, and the cost of replenishing depleted military stockpiles.
3. Order independent oversight through the Government Accountability Office and Department of Defense Inspector General, with findings released publicly.
4. Investigate potential conflicts of interest involving politically connected investors and defense contractors. Disclose relevant contracts and investigate credible evidence of improper favoritism.
5. Exercise Congress’s constitutional war and spending powers. Require a clear legal justification for continued military operations and vote on any necessary authorization. Condition future war funding on transparent accounting, defined objectives, and meaningful oversight.
6. Publish a taxpayer comparison showing how $30 billion could have funded school meals, direct relief for struggling families, and college degrees. Provide the calculations, not political talking points.
Congress controls the purse strings. Your duty is to hold the Executive Branch accountable—not write blank checks while working families struggle with food, housing, healthcare, and education costs.
I demand public hearings, verifiable answers, a full accounting, and concrete congressional action. Our tax dollars belong to the American people. We deserve to know what this war costs, what it accomplishes, and what our families sacrificed to pay for it.
