I write to you with great concern over the escalating violence that Trump’s ICE agents are inflicting on Americans. Violence and cruelty have been their trademarks all year, with masked agents attacking and terrorizing citizens and non-citizens alike. The murder of Renee Nicole Good by ICE marks a new and dangerous escalation in Trump and ICE’s terror tactics. The administration all but condoned her murder by making public statements immediately after that slandered her and justified her murderer. This happened before an official investigation could be completed. Now the justice department has said that they will not investigate the ICE agent who shot her, but rather, will investigate her widow. This is obscene and opens the door for future abuses by ICE, showing them that they can ignore the law and abuse us and kill us and nothing will happen to them. This is a very dangerous prescident to set.
All of the people in your constituency with even a shred of decency are horrified by these events, and we demand that you take steps to:
Protect us from ICE and this administration; and,
That you publicly state your opposition to these tactics and to the murder of Mrs. Good.
Congress has failed to protect us, so now it is up to states to enact laws that will keep their citizens safe from ICE. We call on you to support legislation that requires ICE to be unmasked and to show proper identification, and to do everything in your power to limit their ability to operate in our state. Our friends and neighbors, documented or not, do not deserve to be disappeared or shot, and as our elected representative it is your responsibility to make sure that we are protected. Thank you.
