You are violating your own law to continue to supply Israel with weapons. You should know better than your constituents what the Leahy law is, because it’s your job, but if you're that poorly informed, why don't you read the State Department's website about it: https://tinyurl.com/theleahylaw .
"The term “Leahy law” refers to two statutory provisions prohibiting the U.S. Government from using funds for assistance to units of foreign security forces where there is credible information implicating that unit in the commission of gross violations of human rights (GVHR)."
And wouldn't you know it, gross human rights violations are exactly what multiple NGOs and human rights monitoring organizations are reporting as what Israel is doing in Palestine now and in the past. So, either my politicians are so incompetent that you don't understand what a gross human rights violation is, or you have no respect for the rule of law. What's the point of the pretense of law if you’re going to do whatever you want anyway? Shame on you.
I demand that you:
- Call for an immediate and permanent CEASEFIRE — a "humanitarian pause" guarantees a continuation of the genocide — and a complete end to Israeli occupation of Palestine.
- Condemn Israeli apartheid, war crimes, & lies.
- Express explicit support for Palestinian liberation, from the river to the sea.
- Sanction Israel:
• Withdraw all U.S. troops and assets sent to assist Israel.
• Permanently end all monetary and military aid given to Israel, whether it is directly or indirectly provided.
- Provide substantial, ongoing monetary aid to all surviving Palestinians to help them rebuild, care for the sick & injured, bury the dead with dignity, and to ensure all of their basic needs are taken care of. It’s your responsibility to ensure that their rights are unable to be restricted now or in the future by any government or group.
- Reject any legislation or ideology that directly or indirectly allows for targeting of Palestinians both in the U.S. and abroad.
- Repeal all federal anti-BDS laws for businesses & individuals and pass legislation that voids any & all state-level anti-BDS laws.
- Stop the militarization of our police force by ending the cross-training done with the IDF, and all other ways this is accomplished.
