As a constituent, I’m urging you to reject and vote NO H.R. 1485 for two reasons:
0. It undermines crucial disaster relief efforts and misallocates funding intended for emergencies.
0. It is entirely based on lies, spun by Elon Musk and Trump, and not based on fact. This bill is also includes lies and misrepresentation of what the program does.
0. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) did not provide $59 million to New York City last week for housing immigrants in luxury hotels, as falsely claimed. This money came from a separate program funded by Customs and Border Protection to assist states and localities with migrant services, not from FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund. New York City spent on average only $156 per night on hotel rooms for migrants in 2024, well below federal per diem rates for the area.
Rep. Mace, by introducing this bill, is spreading misinformation about FEMA wasting disaster funds endangers Americans' access to vital aid during crises like hurricanes, wildfires, and other calamities.
Upholding FEMA'S core mission of swift emergency response requires ensuring its funding stream remains intact and allocated appropriately based on fact, not fiction.
For these reasons, I urge you to oppose the lies, and vote NO on H.R. 1485.
