Oppose, Expose His Record, and Vote NO on David Weldon for CDC

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you in the strongest possible terms to oppose the nomination of David Weldon as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As you may know he is the architect of the discriminatory Weldon Amendment, and has actively restricted abortion access for countless patients over the past two decades. The Weldon Amendment allows health care providers to deny abortion care, referrals, and even information about these services based on personal beliefs, prioritizing providers over patients' needs. This dangerous law has been misused to punish states seeking to protect abortion rights and justify expansive refusals of care. Furthermore, Weldon's confirmation could enable the creation of a nationwide database surveilling and criminalizing abortion patients, as outlined in Project 2025's proposals. With access to sensitive public health data, he could require states to report detailed abortion information like patients' locations and reasons for seeking care, threatening to withhold Medicaid funds for non-compliance. None of his agenda is about health, it’s about controlling women’s access to health care and raises red flags about what kind of increased surveillance and criminalization of abortion he wants to accomplish while in such an office. Further, Weldon is also anti-science. He spread disinformation constantly such as propagating false claims linking abortion to breast cancer and vaccines to autism. Mimicking the other witch doctors already appointed by the Trump administration. His willingness to prioritize personal ideology over scientific evidence and public wellbeing makes him unfit to conduct first aid on a scraped knee, much less be the nation's chief health officer. His extensive anti-abortion record and documented history of undermining science and public health is dangerous and makes him a forceful NO on his nomination. I urge you to do the same, oppose, expose his record to the public, and vote NO. Thank you.
