Oppose the SAVE America Act and Protect Voting Access

I am writing to urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act (H.R. 22/S.128), which is scheduled for a House vote during the week of February 9th. This legislation would create unprecedented barriers to voter registration by requiring citizens to present proof of citizenship both when registering to vote and when casting a ballot. Despite claims about protecting election integrity, there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would justify these extreme measures. The impact of this bill would be devastating for eligible voters. More than 21.3 million Americans lack immediate access to documentary proof of citizenship, and over 140 million do not have a passport. The requirement to present a birth certificate or passport in person would disproportionately harm specific groups. Sixty-nine million women who have taken their spouse's last name do not have a birth certificate matching their legal name. Citizens of color are three times more likely than white citizens to lack the required documents. Elderly Americans, who are among the least likely to have passports, would face significant obstacles. Military members serving abroad would be unable to easily register under an in-person requirement. The House previously passed H.R. 22 on April 10, 2025, with a 220-208 vote. The current version adds even more restrictive requirements that would make voting significantly more difficult for millions of eligible Americans. This legislation is not about election security. It is about creating barriers that prevent eligible citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote. I urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act and protect voting access for all eligible citizens. Our democracy depends on making voting more accessible, not less. Please stand against this legislation and ensure that every eligible American can participate in our elections.
