Heather Cox Richardson recently reported on communications between Stephen Miller’s deputy, Anthony Salisbury, and a senior advisor to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth about sending the 82nd Airborne Division into Portland, Oregon. The 82nd Airborne is a force trained for war zones abroad—not for suppressing peaceful protesters in American cities. This plan, reportedly discussed without proper authorization, would violate the spirit of the Posse Comitatus Act and set a terrifying precedent for domestic militarization.
