An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop discrimination against LGBTQ federal workers.

It is unacceptable and illegal to discriminate against and purge LGBTQ+ individuals from the government solely based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. The reported firing of at least 100 intelligence officials for merely participating in an LGBTQ+ support chat is a blatant violation of their civil rights and a dangerous revival of the discriminatory Lavender Scare tactics from the 1950s. This unjust purge not only deprives the intelligence community of talented individuals, but also undermines fundamental American values of equality and inclusion. Such bigoted actions cannot be tolerated in a democratic society that prides itself on protecting the rights of all citizens regardless of their identity. Immediate action must be taken to reinstate these wrongfully terminated employees and put an end to this unlawful discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community within the federal government.
