America’s Soul is Under Siege—Congress Must Act Now
44 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
The United States is more than a country. It is more than borders, policies, and politics. America is an idea—a beacon of hope that has guided generations toward freedom, toward justice, and toward the limitless potential of human ambition. We are, as President Reagan once said, the “shining city on a hill,” a light that the world looks to in times of darkness. Our greatness has never been measured by mere wealth or power alone, but by the strength of our ideals: liberty, democracy, and the unwavering belief that all people deserve the right to pursue happiness free from oppression.
For nearly two and a half centuries, the United States has been the guardian of these principles, standing firm against tyranny and injustice. We have built alliances that have preserved peace, extended our hands to those fleeing persecution, and enshrined laws that demand accountability—not only from our leaders but from one another. This is what has made us exceptional. This is what has made us the envy of the world.
But today, we find ourselves at a crossroads.
The very soul of our nation is under siege, not by a foreign adversary, but from within. The Trump administration has abandoned our allies, undermined global stability, and turned its back on the fundamental principles that define us. The betrayal of Ukraine is not just a diplomatic failure—it is a moral failure. A nation that has looked to us for leadership, for strength, for protection in the face of tyranny, now finds itself under attack not only from Russia but from the very government that once swore to stand beside them.
At home, our economy is strained, our institutions are tested, and our democracy itself is at risk. The rule of law—the bedrock of our republic—is being eroded by an administration that views accountability as an inconvenience and corruption as a right. The values that generations of Americans have fought and died for are being cast aside in favor of personal power, political gain, and reckless ambition.
This cannot stand.
Congress must act—not tomorrow, not in a month, but now. The legislative branch was designed as a check against tyranny, as a safeguard against the very kind of abuses we are witnessing today. If the people’s representatives refuse to rise to this moment, if they allow the destruction of America’s credibility, stability, and moral authority to continue, then they too will be complicit in the dismantling of our nation’s promise.
We cannot let this be our legacy. We cannot let this moment define the decline of the American experiment. Our allies need us. The world needs us. And most of all, we need to remember who we are: the land of the free, the home of the brave, and the last best hope of Earth.
The time for action is now.
For America. For democracy. For the future.
