An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Focus on tangible problems, not restricting artistic expression

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Addressing real issues like homelessness, drug abuse, poverty, and gun violence should be the priority rather than targeting community events. Do not pass House Study Bill 158. Legislation that could restrict access to artistic performances and expressions raises concerns about overreach and potential violations of constitutional rights. Instead of pursuing measures that divide communities, efforts should focus on finding common ground solutions to tangible problems impacting Iowans. Reasonable people may disagree on what is appropriate for minors, but criminalizing attendance at certain events seems an extreme step that warrants careful examination of unintended consequences. Promoting greater understanding while protecting vulnerable groups could bring people together rather than driving them apart over this complex issue.
