I want you to know that Trump and his government wrecking crew, Russell Vought at OMB and RFK Jr., at HHS have violated the 1974 Impoundment Act. That Act demands that the executive branch spend the money allocated by Congress in exactly the way intended. When specific programs are funded, they must be executed. Here is a partial list of government mandated programs that government personnel cuts have left without staff and so are not executed: 1) The Office on Smoking and Health, which tracked trends, supported quit lines, and operated the “Tips from Former Smokers” ad campaign that researchers associate with billions of dollars in saved healthcare costs. 2) A $41 million Alzheimer’s initiative for better surveillance, risk prevention, and communications campaigns. Affected work includes development of a webpage that was to explain what’s known about a potential link between menopause and Alzheimer’s disease, whether early menopause is related to higher risk, and whether hormone therapy can lessen that risk. 3) An $18 million program to support overdose prevention in tribal communities. 4) An $11 million program focused on tracking epilepsy and community programs that help people manage the condition. 5) A sickle cell disease data collection program, for which Congress appropriated $6 million. 6) The Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, the most comprehensive collection of data on the health behaviors and outcomes before, during, and after childbirth. Researchers have been using its data to investigate the nation’s maternal mortality problem. 7) A $2 million program focused on preventing drownings. I want you to demand that the programs we paid for be staffed and implemented and that RFK Jr. and Russell Vought at OMB be impeached and removed ASAP.
