An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Impose an arms embargo on Israel now for targeting journalists with drones

The pattern of Israel drone strikes killing and injuring journalists covering the war in Gaza is extremely disturbing and a grave violation of human rights and international law. Intentionally targeting civilians and members of the press constitutes a war crime. The international community must take strong action to hold Israel accountable and protect the freedom of the press. A comprehensive independent investigation into these attacks on journalists should be launched immediately. A arms embargo needs to be enacted as a means to compel Israel to uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law. This tragic systematic of violence against journalists is deeply concerning not just for the rights and safety of reporters, but for the ability of the world to receive accurate information and bear witness during this conflict. Free and independent media is essential for bringing transparency and pursuing a just resolution. Israel's actions fundamentally undermine peace efforts and cannot be tolerated. Swift and decisive measures by the international community are crucial to upholding human rights, protecting civilian lives, and allowing the truth to be told.
