An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives

Save our schools vote No on the Budget Bill

Please vote No on the Budget bill. The Senate just passed a big, bad bill for our families, our communities, and for public education. The bill includes $7 billion in Medicaid cuts to schools and SNAP cuts that may deny free school meals to 7.5 million children. Also tucked inside this bill is a taxpayer-funded school voucher program that will drain additional billions from our public schools. Instead of investing in the public schools that most kids attend, Congress is proposing to give taxpayer dollars to unaccountable private schools that mostly serve wealthy families who have never attended public school at all. On top of all the other devastating cuts, this bill will mean bigger class sizes, program cuts, and school closings - especially for children with disabilities and rural schools. The House still has the power to protect Medicaid, SNAP, and public school students by voting NO on any bill that includes school cuts or vouchers. Please vote no!
