An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Ask Senator Menendez to Step Down

65 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

In light of the indictments and accusations that have been leveled against Senator Robert Menendez, I respectfully request that you encourage him to step aside from his seat in the Senate, and focus his attention on his defense and his legacy. While he is entitled to a presumption of innocence at trial, the appearance of impropriety among any members of the three branches of our federal government compromises the integrity of the whole. The ongoing multiple judicial proceedings involving the former president, the recent expulsion of George Santos from the House of Representatives, and the ethical lapses among the Justices of the Supreme Court are examples of the damage wrought by the appearance of impropriety. For the sake of our country, Senator Menendez should do the right thing: step aside and allow his seat to be filled by someone whose judgment and ethics are not in question. Senator Menedez has previously refused to resign and will likely continue to do so. If he continues to refuse, I respectfully request that you and other honorable Senators work with Democratic leadership and seek his expulsion. The Senate, the deliberative legislative body, must set an example of what integrity looks like. Thanks.
