Oppose Texas SB 84

I'm writing you to ask you to vigorously oppose SB84. The bill's description of the biology and societal role of male and female is both untrue and deeply offensive.  Fact:  People are born intersex.  I know intersex people.  Fact:  sex is more complicated than looking at a newborn's genitals; the sex assigned at birth may in fact be wrong.  Furthermore, I disagree with the bill that biology is what makes females vulnerable to violence at the hands of males; it is in fact policies that keep people of any sex vulnerable to sexual assault.  Policies that put the victim on trial by assuming she's lying or "easy" or was somewhere she shouldn't be (ie not in her "place").  Attending a frat party or business convention or working in a "man's job" should not suggest an invitation to sexual assault; instead, the perpetrators should be prosecuted for nonconsensual sex.  Wearing certain clothes, being sexually active, inviting petting but saying "no" to "going all the way", having had consensual sex with the perpetrator previously, being married to the perpetrator, these are used to suggest the male was not guilty if he raped her.  The way to protect people from sexual assault is to create a culture and legal system that does not tolerate sexual assualt, believe victims and require perpetrators (males) to be responsible for their sexual and physical violence.  Not policing bathrooms.   What do you think is going to happen if a tall, athletic person (who happens to be female) with short hair and no makeup or jewelry, wearing sweats or jeans and a tshirt, carrying a backpack instead of a purse, goes into the restroom designated for women?  Someone's going to call the police, and then she will be required to pull down her panties?  No, this is not okay.  Let this bill die, please.
