An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support LGBTQ+ Nondiscrimination Protections Now

5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I need you to support comprehensive LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections. The data is clear: this country is ready. A recent Public Religion Research Institute survey of over 22,000 Americans found that 72% support LGBTQ+ rights and nondiscrimination protections. Support for same-sex marriage has climbed to 65%, up from 53% in 2015. Most Americans, 59%, oppose allowing businesses to refuse service to LGBTQ+ people based on religious claims. Even 71% agree that transgender people deserve the same rights and protections as other Americans. The vocal opposition to LGBTQ+ equality is exactly what it sounds like: a loud minority. The majority of Americans across political affiliations, including 49% of Republicans, now support same-sex marriage. This isn't a fringe position anymore. It's the mainstream. I expect you to reflect the values of your constituents and vote for policies that protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. The country has moved forward on this issue. Your leadership should too.
