Reject Trump’s Rhetoric. Restore Humanity to Immigration Policy

I am calling on you to demand an immediate halt to lawless immigration enforcement in Chicago and nationwide. We can and must enforce immigration laws without hateful rhetoric, political theatrics, or disgraceful abuses. What we are witnessing now is a gross distortion of justice and dignity. In Chicago, ICE has launched “Operation Midway Blitz,” arresting nearly 550 people in sweeping raids. Many residents report agents smashing in windows, patting down people without warrants, or arresting individuals at home, even U.S. citizens. Videos show masked agents making arrests in front of children and families. In one Chicago neighborhood, a man was taken from his car while his wife and children watched. Despite his work visa, no judicial oversight was offered. These tactics terrify people and undermine our trust in law enforcement. ICE agents fatally shot a man in Franklin Park after a traffic stop; the official story claims he drove into officers. But the community questions the rushed narrative. In another instance, members of Congress attempting oversight were denied access to an ICE facility in Broadview, despite federal law allowing unannounced inspections. Such refusals shield operations from accountability. Trump and ICE should be held accountable to our laws. They are not above the Constitution. Use your power to demand that enforcement respect due process. Insist on oversight hearings, require that agents produce warrants, and legislate protections so minorities, immigrants, and non‑English speakers are not targeted as second‑class persons. Our democracy requires fairness, not fear.
