Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to lend your support and vote YES on H.R. 2763/S.1393 the American Family Act that would make the expanded child tax credit permanent.
When in force, the expanded child tax credit has proven to be an effective anti-poverty measure, providing vital financial support to working families across the country.
During the brief period it was in effect in 2021, as part of COVID-19 relief, child hunger dropped by 25% and child poverty reached historically low levels.
H.R. 2763/S.1393 as you know, would again increase the value of the child tax credit from $2,000 to $6,360 for newborns, $4,320 for children ages one through six, and $3,600 for children ages six through 17. The payments would be delivered monthly, not annually.
This common-sense policy delivers tangible benefits to children and families, helping to ensure their basic needs are met and creating a stronger foundation for the next generation.
However, without Congressional action, the credit will revert to its previous lower value this fall, jeopardizing the economic security of millions of households.
I urge you to support the American Family Act (H.R. 2763/S.1393) and make the expanded monthly child tax credit permanent. The investment in our youth and their wellbeing is an investment in the future prosperity of our nation.
Thank you for your attention to this matter affecting all sorts of families.
