Please Co-Sponsor the Immigrant Legal Defense Act and Safe Communities Act

As your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor two critical bills that will strengthen justice and safety in Massachusetts: the Safe Communities Act and the Immigrant Legal Defense Act.
Just last month, ICE detained nearly 1,500 people in our state — longtime residents, workers, parents, and taxpayers who are integral to our communities. As federal enforcement escalates, Massachusetts must act to ensure due process and preserve community trust.
The Safe Communities Act (S.1681 / H.2580) would prevent local police and courts from being drawn into federal immigration enforcement, so immigrant victims and witnesses can seek protection without fear of deportation.
The Immigrant Legal Defense Act (S.1127 / H.1954) would establish a statewide program to provide legal counsel for immigrants facing deportation who cannot afford representation. Immigration courts do not guarantee the right to a government-appointed attorney, leaving thousands to navigate an exceptionally complex system alone.
These bills are about fairness, safety, and dignity. I strongly support them and ask you to join the growing coalition of legislators who have already signed on.
Thank you for your leadership and for standing up for the rights of all Massachusetts residents.
