Don’t Vote for the Budget Unless Key Health Provisions Are Restored

I’m writing to urge you to oppose any FY2025/2026 budget agreement unless it fully restores key health care protections stripped by the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” . Specifically, I urge you to support: The Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act — H.R. 4849 in the House and S. 2556 in the Senate — This bill would reverse the most damaging health care cuts made in the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” It would: • Permanently extend enhanced ACA premium subsidies to prevent cost spikes for millions. • Undo Medicaid work requirements and red-tape-driven coverage losses. • Restore fairer eligibility rules and help states maintain care access. This is the main vehicle for protecting ACA and Medicaid recipients from devastating harm. It should be a non-negotiable part of any budget agreement. Full funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Congress must also restore NIH cuts. Scientific and medical research should never be sacrificed in the name of austerity. Protecting biomedical research is not just fiscally wise—it saves lives. Please do not vote for any budget deal unless these health care protections are restored.  Millions of Americans are watching to see if Congress will stand up for affordable care, basic dignity, and the public good.
