Removal of ADA Guidelines Part of a Larger Agenda to Let the Rich Get Richer?

The Department of Justice’s recent decision to RESCIND 11 guidance documents related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) raises significant concerns about our nation’s commitment to ACCESSIBILITY and INCLUSION. These documents provided practical tools to assist businesses in complying with the ADA and ensuring services for individuals with disabilities. Rescinded Guidelines Include: • Maintaining accessible features in retail establishments • Gathering input from customers with disabilities • Providing accessible customer service in hotels and lodging • Assisting customers at self-serve gas stations • Ensuring ADA compliance in new lodging facilities These resources were essential in preventing DISCRIMINATION and promoting EQUAL ACCESS. ⸻ Potential Alignment with Project 2025 This action appears, once again, to align with PROJECT 2025. Notably, Project 2025 proposes: • REDUCING civil rights enforcement, potentially weakening the Department of Justice’s role in upholding laws like the ADA • Eliminating “DISPARATE IMPACT” regulations, which are crucial for addressing policies that disproportionately affect individuals with disabilities • RESTRUCTURING healthcare programs, such as transforming Medicaid funding, which could limit services for people with disabilities • DISMANTLING the Department of Education, thereby undermining enforcement of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) • Weakening the EEOC, affecting employment protections for individuals with disabilities Despite President Trump’s public DISAVOWAL of Project 2025 during his campaign, recent administrative actions closely MIRROR its recommendations. For instance, the removal of ADA guidelines aligns with the project’s objective to reduce regulatory measures perceived as BURDENSOME or COSTLY to businesses. ⸻ Key Questions • Why were these specific ADA guidance documents rescinded now? • Is this action part of a broader strategy influenced by Project 2025 to diminish regulatory oversight, particularly concerning DISABILITY RIGHTS? • How does the administration reconcile these actions with President Trump’s previous statements DISTANCING himself from Project 2025? ⸻ Conclusion The rescission of these ADA guidelines, coupled with policy proposals from Project 2025, suggests a potential shift away from longstanding commitments to DISABILITY RIGHTS and protections. It is imperative to understand the MOTIVATIONS behind these changes and assess their IMPACT on individuals with disabilities. I respectfully request a public EXPLANATION for the removal of these ADA guidance documents and CLARIFICATION on whether this action is part of implementing Project 2025’s recommendations—despite prior denials of such intent. EQUAL ACCESS and PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW should remain FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLES of our society.
