Stop Trump's Signature & Image on U.S. Currency

Congress must stop the Treasury Department from placing Trump's signature on U.S. currency and block any proposal to mint coins bearing his image. The Treasury announced that Trump's signature will appear on new paper currency starting with $100 bills in June, which would make him the first sitting president whose signature appears on American legal tender. This removes the treasurer's signature and ends a tradition dating to 1861. The administration has also proposed minting a $1 coin featuring Trump's image for the nation's 250th anniversary. This violates federal law, which states that only deceased individuals may appear on U.S. currency. That law exists precisely to distance America from monarchy. We fought a war to reject kings. Members of a bipartisan advisory committee already objected to this plan because it breaks with democratic norms and reeks of subservience to royalty. Money is one of democracy's most public symbols and should reflect shared national trust, not presidential ego. The Treasury works for the people not to promote a president or his brand. Congress needs to put a stop to these changes. Pass legislation immediately to reverse the changes to the currency and to bar any living president’s signature or image on U.S. currency.
