An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose postal service privatization undermining democratic access and equity.

The proposed plan to dissolve the US Postal Service's Board of Governors and place the agency under direct control of the Commerce Department is a concerning step towards privatization. Privatizing a constitutionally-established service that provides universal delivery nationwide could have grave consequences for millions of Americans who rely on it for essential goods and services. This move risks ending the requirements for universal and affordable mail delivery to all households, even in remote or less profitable areas. It could dramatically increase costs for businesses and individuals, particularly in rural communities. The Postal Service plays a vital role in our democracy by securely handling mail-in ballots and should remain an independent public service accessible to all. I urge you to oppose any efforts towards privatization that would undermine this critical national institution's ability to serve the entire American public equitably and affordably.
