An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives

Defend Congress's power over spending, reject executive overreach

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The president's actions to unilaterally freeze federal grants, cut spending on areas like medical research and foreign aid, and idle entire agencies represent an encroachment on Congress's constitutional power of the purse. This spending fight is about more than just fiscal policy - it tests the boundaries of executive authority over appropriations that the Constitution explicitly assigns to the legislative branch. Allowing the president to override Congressional spending decisions and make unilateral cuts opens a troubling precedent that undermines the system of checks and balances. I urge you to push back forcefully against these executive overreaches and reassert Congress's spending power as delineated in Article I of the Constitution. The separation of powers and the careful balance it created are fundamental principles that must be vigorously defended.
