Stop Border Wall Construction in the Greater Big Bend Region

I am pleading with you to protect the Greater Big Bend region of Texas from border wall construction. I am also demanding that you oppose any new border wall anywhere in this extraordinary landscape—including near Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Black Gap Wildlife Management Area, Seminole Canyon State Park, and private lands in Hudspeth, Presidio, Brewster, and Terrell Counties. Please understand what is at stake. We are not talking about empty desert. We are talking about one of the most breathtaking, ecologically intact, and irreplaceable landscapes in America. The Greater Big Bend is home to extraordinary wildlife, fragile desert ecosystems, archaeological and cultural resources, working ranches, and the Rio Grande. A wall would permanently scar and fragment this landscape in ways that cannot simply be repaired later. And the damage would not stop at the environment. Border wall construction threatens the economy of the entire Big Bend region. Tourism, outdoor recreation, hunting, lodging, restaurants, outfitters, guide services, and countless small businesses depend on people coming to experience the area’s extraordinary natural beauty. Visitors do not travel to Big Bend to see miles of concrete, steel, roads, construction equipment, and industrial infrastructure. They come because this place is wild, beautiful, and unique. Destroy the landscape, and you risk destroying part of the economic foundation that local communities have spent generations building. I am particularly outraged by any attempt to use federal waivers to bypass environmental protections, cultural resource laws, and meaningful public input. The government should not have the power to simply waive away the laws protecting America’s most treasured places because those protections are inconvenient. There are ways to secure the border without sacrificing the Greater Big Bend. Use modern technology, targeted infrastructure, personnel, and intelligence-driven enforcement. Do not destroy an irreplaceable Texas landscape to build a wall where a wall does not belong. I am asking you—please, protect this land. Stand up for the people, businesses, wildlife, history, and communities of the Greater Big Bend. Oppose every effort to construct a border wall through this region and demand that environmental and cultural protections be respected. Once this landscape is destroyed, no amount of money, legislation, or regret will bring it back. Please do not let this happen on your watch.
