Demand Hearings & Reinstatement of $7 Billion ‘Solar for All’ Grants by EPA
40 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to pressure the Environmental Protection Agency to rescind their recent decision to terminate the $7 billion Solar for All grants program. This regime is bent on making everything more expensive, and their war on clean energy is part of their plan. It cannot be allowed.
The abrupt cancellation of Solar For All not only jeopardizes the installation of over 4 GW of solar capacity but it also denies 900,000 households in low-income and disadvantaged communities the opportunity to reduce their energy bills by at least 20%. Farmers who were planning to adopt solar energy to make additional income will also lose out, and may be liable for loans that were intended to pay part of their own projects.
Meanwhile, the EPA's actions aren’t just disappointing; they’re potentially illegal.
Many states have already filed a lawsuit alleging violations of the Administrative Procedure Act and the U.S. Constitution's Separation of Powers Doctrine.
Additionally, the California Public Utilities Commission and 15 other states are seeking monetary damages for breach of contract.
This program, awarded in August 2024, was a beacon of hope for energy equity and environmental progress. Its cancellation undermines our commitment to clean energy and disproportionately affects our most vulnerable communities.
The loss of these grants will also mean fewer jobs, higher energy costs for those who can least afford it, and a setback in our fight against climate change. Well also. Be beholden to old, polluting and costly to operate fossil fuel plants.
The EPA's silence on this matter is unacceptable.
I urge you to call for hearings and demand transparency from the agency regarding the reasons for this cancellation and push for a swift resolution that puts these grants back in place.
Our communities, our economy, and our environment cannot afford to lose this transformative investment in clean, affordable energy.
Thank you.
