An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Re-Introduce and Support the Microgrid Act to 119th Congress
24 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to help re-introduce the Microgrid Act (Panetta) during the 119th Congress. This is a crucial piece of legislation that extends the tax credit (30%0 for qualifying micro-grid controllers for at least another ten years.
Microgrids provide communities with a reliable and resilient source of energy, independent from the larger grid, which is particularly critical during emergencies and extreme weather events. Our own district was struck by these extreme weather events in the last few years, and there are only signs that this will continue.
As climate change intensifies, causing more frequent wildfires, storms, and power outages, these microgrids offer a clean and cost-effective solution to keep homes and critical infrastructure powered.
Microgrids will also be a boon to expansion of housing without taxing our old-style grids. Housing was an especially big topic during the last election.
This kind of legislation has also proven successful: The previous tax credit incentivized the deployment of over 450 operational microgrids across the United States.
Extending the credit will further accelerate the adoption of this innovative technology, bolstering our energy security and resilience. I urge you to help re-introduce and support the Microgrid Act and continue incentivizing the expansion of microgrids to ensure reliable access to clean energy for all communities.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
