Texans wants freedom of religion

I am writing to demand that you uphold the United States Constitution and respect the separation of church and state. This principle is not optional—it is foundational to our democracy. The First Amendment makes it crystal clear: government cannot impose religion on its citizens.
That is why it is totally illegal and unconstitutional to require public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments. Public schools are not churches. They serve students of all faiths and no faith, and forcing religious doctrine onto children is a direct violation of their rights. It is government overreach in its purest form.
I am also outraged by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick’s recent tantrum at the Texas Capitol, when he publicly scolded and attacked state legislators for not standing during the invocation. That outburst was not only unprofessional—it was embarrassing, unbecoming of his office, and dangerous. No elected official should be pressured, shamed, or bullied into a religious ritual by the second-highest ranking official in Texas. Patrick’s behavior was not about faith—it was about control, and it crossed the very line the Constitution forbids.
Our children deserve classrooms where they can learn freely, without religious tests or indoctrination. Our legislators deserve to do their work without being pressured into performative religious displays. The government’s role is not to enforce one religion’s beliefs but to protect every individual’s right to their own.
Texas leadership must stop trying to blur the line between church and state. This nation was built on religious liberty—and that liberty cuts both ways. People are free to pray if they wish, but they are just as free to abstain. Anything else is unconstitutional.
The people of Texas deserve leaders who protect their rights, not leaders who weaponize religion for politics. I urge you to abandon these unconstitutional schemes and focus instead on the real needs of Texans—our schools, healthcare, infrastructure, and safety.
Respect the Constitution. Respect religious freedom. Respect Texans.
