Iowa families need help with childcare

I’m reaching out as a concerned Iowan to urge you to take meaningful action on the childcare crisis in our state. Frankly, Iowa is becoming less appealing for families. The strains on childcare, coupled with legislative disrespect and funding cuts to public schools, are making it harder for families to thrive here. Our state is often highlighted in national news for our legislature wasting time and taxpayer money on banning books and focusing on demeaning a handful of trans students, rather than addressing the real issues families face every day. We’re refusing federal money to help feed kids because they’re overweight or wasting money creating our own programs when proven federal programs could already help. Unless the state makes meaningful changes, Iowa’s ability to attract and retain families will only worsen. Iowa is Republican-led, and voters are feeling increasingly frustrated. If we don’t see significant improvements in the next two years, many families will be left with no choice but to vote for change. The Childcare Solutions Fund pilot program is a step in the right direction. It’s helping increase childcare slots and providing much-needed support for childcare workers. Expanding this program statewide could make a real difference in addressing both the childcare crisis and the workforce shortages that are holding Iowa back. It’s time to focus on what really matters: affordable childcare, strong public schools, and policies that make Iowa a place where families want to stay and thrive. Please consider expanding the Childcare Solutions Fund and taking meaningful steps to improve conditions for families across Iowa.
