NV Energy wants to build another gas-dependent power plant and raise rates. What happened to ‘clean energy’ alternatives for Nevada? For example, solar. We have vast amounts of desert land and sunshine most days of the year which appears to be an ideal opportunity for solar plants. Gas plants run on fossil fuel; a fuel which can be directly associated with such things as global warming, climate change, and pollution. Whether or not the costs for natural volatile gas have risen, there have been residential rate hikes. From what I’ve read in local newspapers recently, it is my understanding that there is a rate increase happening in July, and NV Energy is in the process of requesting approval for another increase in 2024. It appears to me that NV Energy is wanting a quick and easy profit-increasing choice instead of doing some “homework” to consider cleaner energy sources for Nevada. Don’t allow NV Energy to ‘go in the wrong direction’.
From what I read in NELIS, Bill AB524 is going to Governor Lombardo to sign and it encourages the development of renewable energy. Please urge him to sign the bill. We need actions that move Nevada forward to progress in renewable energy.
We need lower energy costs, and clean energy alternatives which will have a positive impact on our current climate crisis. This situation didn’t happen overnight. With proper projection and planning NV Energy should be considering cleaner energy alternatives than just more gas plants.
