Decriminalize Bodily Autonomy.
Huge numbers of people have been sent to prison for exercising their bodily autonomy. From drug use to sex work we imprison people for exercising basic human rights.
Not only is this morally atrocious, it's incredibly expensive and wasteful. It costs huge amounts of money to arrest, try, convict, and imprison someone. All for making decisions about how they want to use their own bodies. The only victims are the people we criminalize. Instead of people performing activities safely we have created a black market with dangerous conditions. We could provide health resources at a fraction of what it costs criminalize people. We know what happens when these activities are criminalized, people die and are harmed at much higher rates.
The populations most harmed by this laws are our most marginalized communities. Public safety is decreased and it is BIPOC and queer folks who pay the heaviest price.
